2017 Borders in globalization international conference

The Borders in Globalization project held its second annual international conference in Ottawa, on December 6th-8th, 2017. The conference brought together internatinal border experts, government leaders, and private sector partners in an aim both to strenghten collaboration on the management of borders, and to present research to the policy, private and non-profit sectors to solicit feedback and facilitate discussions on the many dimensions of borders and bordering processes.

The conference was organized around the themes of the BIG research agenda, and will featured keynotes by leading experts and academics including Doug Saunders (Globe & Mail), Alan Bersin (formerly US Dept of Homeland Security), Brice de Schietere (Deputy Head, EU Delegation to Canada), Martin Guillermo Ramirez (Executive Director, Association of European Border Regions), Jean Peyrony (General Director, French Mission Operationelle Transfrontaliere), Anne Laure Amilhat Szary (Professor and Director of PACTE-CNRS, Author of Qu’est-ce Qu’une Frontière Aujourd’hui and Borderities and the Politics of Contemporary Mobile Borders), and an evening plenary panel with Chris Sands (John Hopkins), Laura Dawson (Wilson Centre) and Matt Morrison (Pacific Northwest Economic Region) (see draft program for more speakers).
